We congratulate Brandon Pazuengo, age 17 of Logan Heights, as the June recipient of the Mongoose Spirit Award! As Brandon finishes his junior year at King-Chavez Community High School, he is working hard to keep up his grades and citizenship. His participation in numerous activities, including the ‘Walk to Defeat ALS’, MADD’s ‘Operation Sticker Shock’, and numerous weekend boxing shows and events, is a great example of what we expect and appreciate from our dedicated participants as well as his sincere appreciation of all ABC staff, coaches, volunteers, and fellow participants.
Congratulations to Da’ Ron Flood, age 11, who continues to serve as a role model to his peers and demonstrates great respect to all the adults, volunteers and instructors. He has participated in events such as the 2013 & 2014 La Jolla Half Marathon, the 2013 Archie Moore Humanitarian Awards, “Bridging the Gap” Break programs, the Barnes & Noble ABC Book Drive, and numerous weekend events and fundraisers. Furthermore, Da’ Ron excels academically while remaining involved in constructive and healthy activities.
We congratulate Lizzette Corrales as our April recipient! Lizzette has been a dedicated participant at ABC for a year, upholding the four core areas of this award. She is a current 8th grader at Muirlands Middle School where she is excelling academically with a 4.0 grade average. She demonstrates great participation in our programs, remaining diligent in her training in the boxing gym and acting as a leader to all other youth participants, staff, coaches and volunteers.
We congratulate Jennifer Estrada, age 17 as the December recipient of our monthly ‘Mongoose Spirit Award’! Jennifer has been a dedicated participant at the ABC Youth Foundation for three years, upholding the four core areas of this award. She is a junior in high school where she is excelling in both academics and citizenship. She has participated in numerous ABC activities including the 2012 City Heights Town Hall Meeting addressing underage drinking, the 2013 Archie Moore Humanitarian Awards fundraiser, and numerous weekend boxing shows and tournaments.
We congratulate Armando Castillo, age 15 of City Heights, the September recipient of our monthly ‘Mongoose Spirit Award’! Armando has been a dedicated participant at the ABC Youth Foundation for two years, upholding the four core areas of this award. He is entering his sophomore year at Health Sciences High and Middle College where he is excelling academically. He has participated in numerous ABC activities including the “Bridging the Gap” Break Program and a three day training on conflict resolution and management by the National Conflict Resolution Center. He serves as a role model to his peers and demonstrates great respect to all adults and instructors.
Congratulations to our first recipient for August 2013, Taekeyah Calhoun, age 17 of Mountain View, CA! Taekeyah has been a dedicated participant at the ABC Youth Foundation for over a year and a half, upholding the four core standards of this award. She is entering her senior year at San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts where she is excelling academically, as well as regularly attending ABC’s After School Learning Center and Boxing Program. She has participated in numerous volunteer opportunities such as the 2013 La Jolla Half Marathon and the 2012 Rx Drug Abuse Conference Panel in which she addressed over 200 guests about youth drug use in the community. She serves as a role model to her peers and demonstrates great respect to all adults and instructors.
